BELOIT — The building at 80 — 100 E. Grand Ave. in downtown Beloit has long been a curiosity in the community. The building, which used to house businesses such as Kerry and Fat Wallet is partially hanging over the Rock River, held up by pillars that have been sunk into the River.
This building is scheduled to be demolished and in its place, a new building will be erected offering a home for businesses and possibly residents.
Frank McKearn, of the RH Batterman and Company engineering firm, said in November, the tentative schedule for the demolition portion of the project includes bids for the project being advertised was February. The city then was scheduled to award the contract for the demolition in March. The demolition project is expected to be conducted between April and September. Then the wall along the river side of the project area will be construction sometime between September and November.
