BELOIT, Wis. (WKOW) — Starting next week, crews will start work to demolish a building on East Grand Avenue in downtown Beloit. The work will make way for a public riverwalk and a new building.

The city said the first phase of work will be inside the building and will not affect traffic in the area.

Later this summer, the demolition will start. During that stage, the Grand Avenue bridge will stay open, but people will not be allowed to park on the bridge.

Beloit said construction of the riverwalk should be done by next summer.

The city is providing $500,000 of funding for the riverwalk extension, but it is not paying to demolish the existing building. The property’s developers are providing a local grant match.
