BELOIT — You can bank on the fact that there will be a Taco Takedown 2 in 2025.
But, ripping off the Jaws Roy Scheider line from 1975 (“You’re going to need a bigger boat”), next year’s version is “going to need more food trucks.”
The inaugural Taco Takedown Saturday at the Ironworks Campus in downtown Beloit drew 10 businesses willing to show off their taco offerings. Five were from Beloit, but it also drew taco creators from Janesville and Madison in Wisconsin, and Rockford, Wauconda and Chicago in Illinois.
It was an impressive array of offerings, and more than 1,000 hungry visitors descended upon the Ironworks campus when the event opened at 3 p.m. The lines to get tacos for various vendors numbered in the hundreds. Many only bought one or two before heading out.
