MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Work to demolish a building in downtown Beloit is set to begin as the city makes way for a public riverwalk and private redevelopment in the area.
City of Beloit noted work to remove rooftop units at 80-100 East Grant Avenue will begin on Monday, followed by the demolition of the building. The work to take down the whole structure is expected to take several months, with riverwalk construction expected to be completed by the summer of 2025.
The public-private development involves a currently vacant structure that is situated over the Rock River. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has required the building be removed by 2042, as there is major damage to the underwater portion of the building.
