BELOIT – Commercial construction in Beloit in 2024 was more about what came down than what went up.
In 2024, two major eyesores finally were reduced to rubble. The 80-100 E. Grand Avenue building, in downtown Beloit, which was originally built in 1892 as a shoe store, was torn down in the fall. In South Beloit, workers are in the final stages of tearing down the former Garden Hotel, which opened in 1964 as a Holiday Inn.
There were some notable building projects in 2024, but they were dominated by renovations and remodels. Six of the 10 biggest building permits issued in the city of Beloit and Town of Beloit in 2024 were re–imaginings of existing spaces.
