BELOIT — Some timely rains have brought a bit of hope to farmers in the Stateline Area battling this year’s drought, but some produce growers at Beloit’s Farmers Market say dry conditions have made this a rough year.
Tony Jay of Monroe was selling beans, cabbage and other produce on Saturday at the downtown Beloit Farmers Market. He said the drought conditions in southern Wisconsin have presented some challenges for him this year.
“We irrigate which has helped a lot, but the things we can’t irrigate, like potatoes, we have less of those to sell this year,” he said.
He noted even some flowers grown at his home take a lot of work and water to maintain.
