BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) – A vacant building in downtown Beloit will soon be demolished to make way for a public riverwalk and a private redevelopment project.
Work will begin next week at the site at 80-100 E. Grand Avenue, with the demolition set to happen in late July or early August.
During the first stage of the demolition, the Grand Avenue bridge will stay open to traffic, but parking will be closed on the bridge.
The project is part of a requirement from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to remove a 11,380 square-foot structure protruding over the Rock River by 2042. Once the damaged building is demolished, crews will work to extend the Rock River Trail and downtown Riverwalk to promote outdoor recreation.
