Cannon fire will be sounded at Veterans Park on Friday and Saturday during the commissioning of the USS Beloit, the U.S. Navy’s newest combat ship named for a Wisconsin city.
The 387-foot-long Freedom-variant littoral combat ship arrived Nov. 17 at Veterans Park, where it will officially receive its name and be commissioned for active service at the Saturday morning ceremony.
Loud explosions can potentially trigger negative reactions for people with sensitive hearing or post traumatic stress disorder. Cannon fire rounds are ceremonial; no live rounds will be fired during the event.
